Commerce and Culture merge with the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra

The worlds of classical and popular music will merge for a spectacular light and visual show in the Artscape Opera House on Sunday, October 20. The evening will also see the merging of the worlds of commerce and culture in a collaboration between the Cape Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra. Bringing it all together on stage will be the outstanding local comedian, Alan Committie. Township Opera will sing Circle of Life and Back of the Moon, while Lynell Kenned and Jarrad Ricketts will bring you Freddie Mercury and Montserrat Caballe’s Barcelona. There’s much more in the line-up which is bound to have you shouting for more. A feature of the evening will be the symphonic treatment of the music of The Beatles, Abba and Queen while members of the Zip Zap Circus will provide visual entertainment in the form of juggling and acrobatics to the music of Rossini and Khatchaturian. The concert starts at 5pm and, when the music stops at 7pm, there will be a networking event for Cape Chamber guests. The concert offers a professional platform to a host of performers. New to the CPO platform are dancing pair Oleksii and Michele, singing group Asili, crooners Tracey-Lee Oliver and Madeegha Anders. On the podium will be the CPO’s resident conductor, Brandon Phillips; Aviva Pelham is the musical director and the master of ceremonies will be Alan Committie. Lighting design is by Faheem Bardien. Philharmonic orchestras are an essential cultural asset to any city. The talent we have in Cape Town is exceptional and we are immensely proud to be associated with an event of this caliber. Tickets for Cape Chamber guests are available on the Cape Chamber website (www.capechamber.co.za/events/cpo) and can be collected an hour before the show at the Artscape. Tickets for general public are available via Computicket. For more information contact Nadia Singh on 021-403-4323 or nadia@capechamber.co.za
