Promoting What Matters Most
Two years ago, we conceived and developed the Western Cape Economy Innovation Awards. The intent was to create an "Oscars" style event to celebrate the champions who do what our country needs most: those who not only create opportunities for themselves, but innovate to unlock economic opportunities that make our part of the world a better place. The intent was to host an inspiring annual event that:
-- Demystifies what is required to shape a growing economy.
-- Elevates role models who demonstrate the behavioural patterns that stimulate growth.
-- Cultivates a widespread desire for similar entrepreneurial behaviour.
-- Deepens the collective belief in what is possible.
The stakeholder responses indicate that we are well on track in realising these goals.
Madalet Sessions, Denker Capital:
“I have not felt optimistic about SA for a while now and last night really reminded me that there is so much happening below the headline numbers that hold so much promise.”
Petra Devereux, Master Builders Association:
“We left feeling truly inspired by the level of innovation addressing real issues in our city and benefiting not only the economy but those in need.”
Agrinews:
“The awards put a stark spotlight on ‘systemic innovation.’ Rather than celebrating isolated technological concepts, the 2026 cycle specifically honoured collaborative, results-based solutions that lift up entire supply chains, protect jobs, and build resilience across the regional economy. For South Africa’s agricultural community, the 2026 Innovation Awards serve as a proud reminder that through smart investment, world-class technology, and deep industry collaboration, the region’s fields, farms, and cellars are uniquely equipped to navigate an increasingly unpredictable global climate.”
Linda Nienaber, Business Ireland South Africa:
“It was inspiring to hear the stories behind the remarkable individuals and organisations being recognised, and to see the incredible talent driving growth and innovation across our region.”
Dr Ivan Meyer, Provincial Minister of Agriculture, Economic Development and Tourism:
“I warmly congratulate our Red Tape Reduction Unit on receiving this prestigious award. This recognition affirms the critical work we are doing to remove barriers to growth and to build a capable, enabling state.”
Adv Louise Friester, Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions, Western Cape:
“A beautifully arranged event, which once again underscored the importance of our work in creating and enabling an environment conducive to economic development in the province.”
Rebecca Hope, Founder, Transformational Business Development:
“It is a privilege to be part of a growing vibrant country which is driven by smart innovation at a regional level. Private and public entities are working within their boundaries but hand-in-hand to bring competitive ideas to life, making Cape Town a hot and happening place for innovation in a global context.”
AIMS South Africa:
“We are delighted to share that AIMS South Africa has won a Western Cape Economy Innovation Award in the category of Workforce and Human Capital. This award recognises AIMS South Africa’s collaborative education model, our strong national and international partnerships, and the high-impact skills we have helped develop over more than a decade in the Western Cape.”
As our Chamber President, Jacques Moolman, concludes:
“The awards did more than celebrate innovation. They showcased the values that the Chamber stands for: leadership, excellence, entrepreneurship, collaboration, and the belief that through innovation and purposeful collaboration we can help shape a stronger economic future for the Western Cape and South Africa.”
“It is a privilege to be part of a growing vibrant country which is driven by smart innovation at a regional level. Private and public entities are working within their boundaries but hand-in-hand to bring competitive ideas to life, making Cape Town a hot and happening place for innovation in a global context.”
