- 18th September 2018
11:00 - 13:00
The Economic and Finance Portfolio Committee will be hosting an engagement with Adv Eric Mkhawane – the CEO of the Office of the Tax Ombudsman and Mr Thomas Radzilani – Executive: Tax Operational Centre of Excellence Business & Individual Tax (BAIT) of SARS. They will address the most prevalent business/consumer tax complaints and what is being done to address them. Also covered will be:
- State of the country’s tax morality
- Redressing tax complaints in a free and impartial manner
- Tax compliance issues
- The tax regime moving forward.
According to SARS, the majority of the state’s income is derived from income tax (personal and company), although nearly a third of total revenue from national government taxes comes from indirect taxes such as VAT.
SARS states that their aim is to grow the tax register and to reduce the tax gap. The level of growth is influenced by economic conditions, tax policy, legislative amendments, tax-base broadening activities and the overall compliance climate. The register comprises individuals, companies, trusts, employers and VAT vendors.
We welcome your attendance and engagement at the meeting.
