The Chamber’s Economic and Finance Portfolio Committee will be hosting a meeting  with Professors Ben Cousins and Johann Kirsten to debate and discuss practical strategies and positive solutions in order to address the issue of land expropriation without compensation.

Ben Cousins is a Senior Professor and DST/NRF Chair in Poverty, Land and Agrarian Studies (PLAAS) at the University of the Western Cape.  Professor Cousins is currently rated by South Africa’s National Research Foundation as a researcher who enjoys considerable international recognition for the high quality and impact of his recent research outputs.

Johann Kirsten is Professor in the Department of Agricultural Economics and Director of the Bureau for Economic Research (BER) at Stellenbosch University.  Professor Kirsten’s main research interests are agricultural policy, land reform and the economics of origin-based foods.

The meeting will provide an opportunity for business to focus on practical approaches and to recommend positive solutions.
